About
Medical Respite Boulder is home care for the homeless. It offers a safe, quiet place of healing for those without a home.
Some homeless people are too sick to navigate the rigors of life on the street but are not acutely ill enough to require hospitalization. Medical Respite Boulder arranges for these patients to recuperate in a motel for a short time. A home health professional makes regular visits, monitoring their treatment plans and health status. At the end of the stay, patients transition to a primary care doctor for follow-up and preventive care.
Medical Respite Boulder is a collaborative effort. The three initial partners are Clinica Family Health Services, Boulder Community Hospital and the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. Other agencies, businesses and individuals in the area have joined in discussions about how they can support the program.
